New term - New adventures

We have got off to a great start this term with all of classes really full and buzzing with enthusiastic young people.

We were honoured to be asked by the Ardgowan Hospice to take part in a large-scale fundraiser they are holding throughout October called "Together We Rock".  This involves a number of groups throughout the Inverclyde area and GYT are really excited to be involved.  We have been working with our Primary 1-7 children on creating short little pieces of theatre inspired by some hit songs - such as this one by Paul Simon:

We are also learning 'Here Comes the Sun' by the Beatles and this is proving to sound really impressive, there are a number of fantastic singers in our younger groups.  The Primary 1 and 2s are working on a movement piece to 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds' and have been very busy making their newspaper taxis and marmalade skies!  We shall be inviting parents along on the 15th of October to see what we have been up to and to donate to this wonderful cause.

Our senior class have been working on creating a new play - provisionally titled 'The First 100 Days".  We have been really pushing the class and they have responded brilliantly, creating some really exciting movement sequences and we are sure that the play will be really atmospheric - we hope to put it on in March next year.

We are delighted to announce that our senior tutor, and co-founder, Andrew McGregor has completed his Masters degree in directing from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly RSAMD). He is now looking forward to starting work with the National Theatre of Scotland as well as returning to the Conservatoire to teach and direct next year.

And finally our other co-founder, Marianne Yeomans and our tutors Megan Yeomans and Ryan Moir are busy beavering away in Largs working on a very exciting new production of Annie - Marianne is playing Miss Hannigan and we hear that it's a performance not to be missed!  Check out the Largs Youth Theatre website for more details, we are looking at organising a trip to the Saturday matinee but will keep you posted with details.

So all in all it has been a rip-roaring start to the year and we can only see things getting more exciting!
